In view of the natural disasters that hit our country in the last few months of last year, we felt obliged to bring to the National Council of University Students (CNSU) a motion addressed to the Minister for Education, Universities and Research (Mr Fioramonti at the time), the 7th Parliamentary Committees and the Italian Parliament in general. It called for guarantees for students who are affected by calamitous events that are unfortunately becoming increasingly frequent.

The CNSU asks in relation to natural disasters that:

Specifically, we have requested that the Minister and the Government take action to ensure that all the initiatives implemented by the universities are financially supported. These in favour of male and female students affected by natural disasters, starting with the refund of the student contribution for the A.Y. 2019/2020, with the aim of assisting and incentivising measures of attention towards those who have suffered damage from the events.

Furthermore, the Parliament, as already requested in the case of previous disasters. It includes through the Seventh Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, should draw up and adopt a proposal for the creation of a fund for natural disasters, in order to put the universities in a position to immediately implement extraordinary measures relating to the right to study of the students involved, along the lines of the “Fund for National Emergencies” or including it in the latter.

We believe it is important to show solidarity with the affected areas, including the universities and the students who attend them on a daily basis.

Students Representative in CNSU and CUN (2019-2022)
